Is it harmful to eat after 6 pm?

Many children hear their parents say: 'Don't eat after 6 pm or you will get fat!' But is this really true?

The answer is more complicated than you might think. Scientists have studied this question and they found no evidence that eating after 6 pm causes weight gain. The real problem is not the time when you eat. The problem is what and how much you eat. If you eat a big meal right before bed, your body may not digest it well. This can make you feel uncomfortable and you might not sleep well. But this does not automatically make you gain weight.

Weight gain happens when you eat more calories than your body uses. This can happen at any time of day. Some people eat a lot of snacks in the evening. They sit and watch TV and eat crisps, biscuits, and chocolate. These foods have a lot of sugar and fat. This is not good for your health. But eating a small, healthy snack like a piece of fruit or a glass of milk is fine. It will not make you fat.

There is also some research that shows that eating at night can affect your sleep. Your body needs time to digest food before you sleep. If you eat too much before bed, your stomach works hard while you try to sleep. This can make you wake up feeling tired. So, there is no magic rule about 6 pm. You just need to listen to your body and eat sensibly.

Why does popcorn pop and soup explode in the microwave?

Popcorn kernels have a hard outer shell. Inside each kernel, there is a small amount of water. When you heat popcorn, the water inside turns into steam. The inside of the kernel turns inside out and becomes the fluffy popcorn we eat.

Soup in the microwave works in a similar way. When you heat soup, the water inside heats up and turns into steam. But soup has fat and other ingredients. These ingredients can trap the steam. When the pressure becomes too high, the soup erupts. This is why soup sometimes explodes in the microwave.

Scientists have studied these phenomena for many years. They discovered that the size of the container and the amount of water are very important. Popcorn kernels must have the right amount of water inside. If a kernel has too little water, it will not pop. If it has too much water, it will not pop either. For soup, you must stir it before heating. This helps the heat spread evenly and prevents explosions.
