The Gifted Flesh of Chernograd — 3. Russian Eros
None behaved theatrically submissive.
They simply existed within the structure surrounding them.
At the centre of the yard stood a tall grey-haired man in riding clothes, broad through the shoulders despite his age, one gloved hand resting behind his back while the other held a long leather strap.
Her posture was disciplined rather than panicked. Both hands remained exactly where they had been placed upon the wooden support, though the tension running through her back and thighs was plainly visible beneath the sun-warmed skin.
The sound came a moment later.
Leather striking flesh.
Clean. Precise. Sharp enough to carry across the yard without effort.
Varvara felt her own shoulders tighten in response.
The young woman drew in a sudden breath, her fingers pressing harder against the wood, but no cry escaped her.
The grey-haired man lowered the strap slightly, watching her with the measured attention of someone evaluating endurance rather than inflicting anger.
“Do not shift,” he said calmly.
At once, the slave steadied herself again, forcing the strain out of her posture until she stood motionless beneath his inspection.
Only then did the man glance towards the approaching group.
His eyes moved first to Natalia, then to Yelena, then briefly to Varvara — assessing, not lingering.
“Well”, he remarked in a dry voice, “either commerce has arrived, or my wife has found herself another ambitious young aristocrat to corrupt.”
Natalia exhaled something very close to a laugh.
“My dear,” she replied, “you say that as though corruption here were not thoroughly systematized already.”
The grey-haired man acknowledged the newcomers with little more than a brief inclination of the head before returning his attention to the young naked woman before him, as though interruption altered neither the rhythm of the work nor its importance.
The leather strap rose once more.
This time Varvara watched the movement itself — the measured economy of the arm, the absence of theatrical force, the precision with which the blow was placed across the already reddening skin of the woman’s thighs.
Again the slave tightened against the wooden support.
Again she remained silent.
“Better”, the man said calmly.
Only then did Natalia resume walking.
“They are not kept here merely for decoration”, she remarked as the group continued along the fence line. “Although some guests persist in imagining otherwise.”
Behind them, another sharp report crossed the yard.
“The female division of the estate serves several purposes”, Natalia continued. “Domestic labor, hospitality, discipline management, breeding contracts, administrative support. Some remain permanently within the household structure. Others are sold or transferred according to demand.”
As she spoke, one of the older naked women crossed the yard carrying folded linens in her arms with the composed assurance of a long-established servant, scarcely acknowledging the punishment taking place a few paces away.
“Many of the men require controlled environments”, Natalia added. “Particularly during periods of intensive training or competition preparation. Women are often more effective in maintaining behavioral stability around them than male staff.”
Yelena glanced once toward the yard.
“Because the men behave differently under female supervision,” she said.
Natalia nodded.
“In most cases, yes. Especially once hierarchy has been properly established.”
Another of the slaves approached the grey-haired man carrying fresh water and a clean cloth. She, too, was naked, though the ease of her movements suggested that clothing had long ceased to define either dignity or exposure within the estate.
Varvara found herself looking not at the punishment now, but at the women surrounding it.
None appeared frightened.
None hurried.
The entire scene possessed the strange composure of ordinary work being performed exactly where it belonged.
They left the yard behind them gradually, though the sounds of it — leather, footsteps, quiet commands — continued to drift across the estate long after the fence itself had fallen from view.
The next enclosure stood further from the main activity of the grounds, partially shaded by tall pines whose resinous scent thickened the warm afternoon air. At first glance the space appeared almost empty.
Then Varvara saw the crosses.
Two upright wooden frames had been fixed into the earth several yards apart. Against each of them stood a naked woman secured by wrists and ankles, arms spread wide by the restraints in a posture that carried something disturbingly close to ceremonial symmetry.
Both were young.
One dark-haired, narrow-waisted, her head lowered so that loose strands of black hair clung against her flushed cheek and throat. The other fair-haired and softer-bodied, the roundness of pregnancy unmistakable beneath the tension of her restrained posture.
Varvara slowed without quite intending to.
Neither woman struggled.
The blonde shifted first, carefully adjusting her weight with the slow discomfort of someone whose back had already remained strained too long beneath both restraint and pregnancy.
Natalia noticed the direction of Varvara’s attention immediately.
“The brunette attempted to injure one of the stable boys with a grooming hook three days ago”, she explained with matter-of-fact calm. “Not seriously. More from temper than intent.”
Her gaze moved briefly towards the blonde.
“And this one,” she continued, “has developed the unfortunate habit of ignoring movement restrictions during pregnancy.”
Yelena’s eyes lingered on the pregnant slave.
“She works despite condition?”
“Within limits,” Natalia replied. “Idleness produces worse behavior than labor in many cases.”
The blonde lowered her head slightly at the sound of voices nearby, though whether from embarrassment or simple exhaustion remained difficult to tell.
“The restraints are corrective rather than painful,” Natalia added. “Immobilization discourages impulsive behavior remarkably well. Particularly in individuals inclined to dramatize disobedience in order to attract attention.”
As though hearing herself discussed, the dark-haired woman shifted sharply against the bindings with visible irritation.
The movement earned her nothing more than a cool glance from Natalia.
“You see?” she remarked lightly. “Still performing.”
“May I?” Varvara asked.
Natalia glanced at her once.
“Of course.”
Varvara stepped away from the path and crossed the dry grass slowly, aware now of the silence with which both restrained women followed her approach.
Up close, the scale of the wooden frames appeared more severe than from a distance. The restraints had been fastened with practical efficiency: leather cuffs around wrists and ankles, tight enough to prevent movement, broad enough not to cut the skin.
Varvara stopped beside the blonde.
The pregnant woman’s stomach stood almost level with her eyes, the pale skin drawn taut beneath the afternoon light with that strange firmness unique to late pregnancy — delicate and heavy at once.
For a moment Varvara simply looked.
Then she lifted her hand.
The slave flinched faintly at the first contact, more from surprise than fear.
Varvara’s fingers moved slowly across the stretched skin, testing its warmth, its tension, the undeniable presence of life beneath it. The sensation unsettled her more than she expected.
The blonde lowered her gaze but did not otherwise move.
Curiosity overcame hesitation.
Varvara let her hand drift lower, lightly touching the soft blond curls beneath the rounded weight of the woman’s belly, examining them with the same absorbed attention she might have given an unfamiliar fabric or rare animal.
Behind her, Natalia remained entirely composed.
“Do the women here often become pregnant?” Varvara asked without turning.
“Only when permitted”, Natalia replied.
The answer came without embarrassment or softness — merely as fact.
“Breeding within the estate is regulated carefully. Some women are selected for it.”
Varvara glanced briefly upward.
“And the fathers?”
A faint trace of amusement touched Natalia’s voice.
“In this place”, she said, “the mothers are usually of greater administrative importance.”
Natalia watched Varvara’s hand rest briefly against the pregnant curve before continuing in the same even tone.
“There is also a market for women in this condition,” she said. “Certain clients specifically request pregnant slaves.”
Varvara did not look away as Natalia spoke. Her attention remained fixed on the pregnant slave — on the tautness of the skin beneath her fingers, the burdened grace of the body, the intimate transformation that made the woman appear at once more vulnerable and more physically present than before.
“They enjoy the altered proportions of the body”, Natalia continued matter-of-factly. “The fullness. The vulnerability. The visual contradiction.”
The blonde remained motionless against the cross, breathing carefully beneath the weight of both restraint and child.
“In many households,” Natalia went on, “such women function less as labor and more as living ornaments. Dolls, essentially. Objects of fascination.”
A faint pause followed.
“And sometimes instructional ones.”
Yelena glanced at her.
Natalia’s expression barely changed.
“Some wives prefer their daughters to become accustomed early to the practical realities of ownership before marriage,” she explained. “Pregnant slaves are useful for that purpose. They make certain biological processes impossible to romanticize.”
“And afterwards?” Varvara asked.
“After birth, many are sold again”, Natalia replied. “Or returned under contract, depending on the arrangement.”
Her eyes moved briefly across the restrained blonde with the calm appraisal of someone discussing estate management rather than intimacy.
“Pregnancy changes market value”, she added. “But only temporarily.”
Varvara withdrew her hand at last, though her eyes remained on the pregnant woman a moment longer than was strictly necessary.
A slave for breeding, she thought.
An interesting arrangement — though clearly a long-term one. Slow to develop, slow to prove itself. Not something that yielded immediate results or visible return.
Still… not without logic.
Her gaze shifted slightly, not fully turning away from the crosses.
She became aware, a fraction too late, of Yelena watching her. Not casually. Not incidentally. But with the quiet precision of someone following the direction of thought rather than movement.
Varvara held the awareness for a heartbeat longer, then allowed her expression to remain unchanged — composed, contained, offering nothing that could be called confirmation. Yet the feeling persisted. As if her thinking had briefly become visible in the air between them, and Yelena had simply chosen not to interrupt it.
They left the crosses behind them without further comment, the estate absorbing their passage as if it had never paused at all.
The path widened as they approached the men’s territory.
The change was immediate, though not announced in any architectural sense. It was carried instead by sound, scent, and density of presence — a thick, primal energy that made Varvara’s breath catch in her throat.
The air grew heavier with effort — sweat, heated metal, oiled leather, damp earth turned repeatedly under heavy boots. The scent was raw, almost animal, and it sent a strange tremor through her limbs. Voices became fewer, but deeper when they appeared, shaped less for conversation than for instruction and response — commands that carried weight, that demanded obedience.
Ahead, the fencing opened into a vast training ground. It was not a yard so much as a system of contained force — a living, breathing entity that pulsed with raw power.
Groups of men occupied it in different states of exertion: some running controlled circuits marked by posts and chains, their bare feet pounding the earth, muscles rippling with every stride; others lifting weighted frames, veins standing out on their arms and necks; others locked in supervised grappling on packed sand where instructors observed without interruption, intervening only with short commands that immediately altered posture, grip, or rhythm.
Nakedness here was uniform, not theatrical — stripped not for display but for efficiency. Skin glistened with sweat beneath the pale sun, muscles working in clear mechanical articulation, bodies reduced to function, endurance, correction. Varvara’s cheeks burned as her gaze involuntarily traced the lines of their bodies — the broad shoulders, the flexing thighs, the way their forms moved with brutal grace. She tried to focus on the system, on the patterns of control, but her eyes kept catching on details she had never seen so openly before: the way their bodies responded to exertion, the shifting shapes beneath the skin, the unavoidable signs of their masculinity in various states of tension.
At intervals, men stood at attention while being assessed: height, stance, breathing, recovery time. Others knelt while bindings were checked or adjusted, not as punishment but as maintenance of compliance. Each time her eyes landed on a new figure, a flush crept up her neck — hot, confusing, almost shameful. She tried to look away, to study the instructors instead, seeking refuge in their controlled postures. But the men’s raw presence overwhelmed her: muscles straining, sweat pouring, and between their legs, penises and scrotums bobbing and swaying with each powerful stride — a visceral, unignorable truth that pulled her gaze back, again and again.
Mrs. Kestrel was already there. No longer simply their guide through the estate, she now appeared as something closer to its operational centre — moving along the edge of the training ground with a clipped economy of motion that left no doubt about where attention converged when decisions were required.
She carried no visible instrument of force, yet nothing in the space appeared to operate independently of her presence. A brief gesture redirected a running line. A glance corrected a pair of grapplers. A single word halted a group mid-exertion until alignment was restored.
The men responded instantly, without hesitation, as if the delay between command and obedience had been engineered out of them long ago. Varvara watched, fascinated and unsettled, as one man froze mid-stride at a mere flick of Mrs. Kestrel’s wrist — his chest heaving, sweat running down his torso, his body utterly still except for the pulse in his neck. Her gaze caught on the taut, rounded muscles of his buttocks, the way they held their shape even in complete stillness, and the heavy, sweat-slicked form between his legs. A hot flush crept up her neck, but she could not look away. She felt a strange tightness in her chest, a mixture of awe and something else — something warm and unnamed — coiling low in her belly.
Near the centre of the ground stood several figures who drew attention not by action but by stillness. Stronger than the rest. Broader through shoulder and chest. Their restraint was subtler — not physical confinement, but the visible discipline of those accustomed to being observed as assets rather than individuals.
One of them bore faint markings across his torso, old and uneven, the kind that suggested repeated correction over time rather than a single incident. Another kept his gaze lowered even while standing fully exposed in the open light, breathing controlled and measured, as though conserving himself for evaluation. Varvara’s breath hitched as she met his eyes for a fleeting moment — dark, intense, yet utterly disciplined. She looked away quickly, her face flushing hotter than before.
Mrs. Kestrel noticed the approaching group before anyone else broke rhythm. She turned just enough to acknowledge their arrival without interrupting the flow of what she was already managing across the training ground. “Everything is prepared,” she said flatly, her voice carrying cleanly across the yard. “The men are assembled and ready for inspection.”
Varvara did not register the moment of entry so much as the moment her attention ceased to have a single point of rest. The air was different here — thicker with heat and effort, carrying the sharp, mineral scent of sweat, dust, and worked leather. Sound no longer drifted in fragments; it came in structured pulses: impact, breath, command, response. Even silence, when it appeared, felt administered rather than natural.
And then there were the bodies. Too many at once for the eye to settle properly. Varvara slowed, not because she intended to, but because her attention had nowhere stable to land. Men filled the space in overlapping fields of activity — running lines, controlled grappling zones, strength frames, standing evaluations. All of it stripped down to function, all of it exposed to the same open light.
She had seen men before.
She had not seen this many, like this, under a single system of attention. The sheer physical presence of them overwhelmed her senses — the heat, the movement, the raw masculinity laid bare. Her pulse quickened, her breath coming faster, and she pressed her hands against her sides, trying to steady herself.
Something in her resisted naming what she felt. Not discomfort exactly. Not curiosity either. It was closer to an internal misalignment — as if the mind had expected categories and found only force arranged into order, and beneath that, a primal, visceral awareness of bodies in motion. She tried to think of the system, of the mechanics of control, but her thoughts kept stumbling over the reality before her — the sweat-slicked skin, the powerful limbs, the unavoidable truth of their nakedness.
Her gaze moved, searching for structure. Where had all the guards gone? The thought came fully formed, almost instinctive. There should have been visible containment. Separation. Security. Instead, she saw instructors — few, positioned at edges, moving with economy rather than display, some of them women. A short gesture here, a single word there, and entire groups of men adjusted instantly, as though their motion had been tuned rather than interrupted.
Varvara’s attention tightened.
“Where are the guards?” she asked at last, not lowering her voice. Her own voice sounded strange to her — higher, thinner than usual.
Mrs. Kestrel did not slow.
“There are no separate guards,” she replied evenly. “The system is its own enforcement.” A pause — not for emphasis, but because the explanation required no extension. “Those you see supervising the sectors are sufficient.”
Varvara looked again across the field. A man dropped from motion into stillness under a brief command, and remained there without visible strain, as if the transition had been absorbed long before it became physical. Another group continued their cycle without interruption, even as an instructor passed directly between them, correcting rhythm with a single word. Control here was not applied. It was distributed.
Varvara realized she had been expecting something external — restraint imposed from above, visible and separate from the men themselves. Instead, everything she saw suggested the opposite. The structure did not stand apart from them. It ran through them.
They continued walking along the edge of the sector, not entering the fields but moving through corridors of observation between them. The men did not react to their presence beyond what protocol required — a shift of attention, a fraction of stillness, then continuation.
Varvara found herself adjusting her own pace without deciding to, her heart pounding in a rhythm that felt both foreign and familiar. Dmitri followed behind her, quieter than before, as though the space had assigned him a different weight.
Ahead, the training ground extended further than she had first understood — divided not by walls, but by function, each section feeding into the next like parts of a single mechanism.
And for the first time since entering the estate, Varvara stopped trying to decide what she was looking at. She began trying to understand how it held — how the system worked, how the men moved, how the power flowed through it all… and how, despite her best efforts, her body kept responding in ways she had never known before.
Yelena glanced sideways at Varvara as they walked, the faintest trace of irony touching her voice.
“So”, she said lightly, “shall we assume you intend to purchase the entire establishment, or are you planning to be more selective?”
The question was posed as a joke, but it carried just enough edge to test the direction of Varvara’s attention.
Varvara did not hesitate.
“I am not here for cocks and flesh”, she replied evenly. “I am here for controlled strength.”
A brief pause followed — not of uncertainty, but of redefinition.
Her gaze shifted forward, toward Natalia.
“You mentioned earlier,” she continued, “your more experienced fighters. The ones suited for serious work. Where are they kept?”
Natalia did not look surprised.
“They are further in,” she said. “Past the evaluation fields.”
Varvara nodded once.
“Then take us there.”
What she had felt on first exposure — the overwhelming physical presence of the men, the raw, unfiltered force of their naked bodies — was still there beneath the surface. But it no longer dictated her attention. It had been pushed downward, contained, converted into something quieter and more deliberate. She did not allow herself to react as a spectator anymore. She reacted as someone who might decide.
Natalia regarded Varvara for a moment longer than before — not as a guest now, but as something whose position within the system was beginning to clarify itself.
“Further in,” she added, turning slightly as they walked, “you will find those who are no longer in training.”
Yelena gave a soft sound that might have been agreement or amusement, but did not elaborate.
The path narrowed again, drawing them away from the open evaluation fields into a more controlled arrangement of space. What had been spread across wide, visible ground now gathered into tighter sectors, where movement was less dispersed and more contained. The noise changed with it — fewer overlapping rhythms, more isolated bursts of effort, each one followed by a clear response rather than continuation.
Here the men were fewer, but heavier in presence.
Not in number — in weight of attention.
Varvara noticed it immediately. The difference was not in appearance alone, but in how the space itself seemed to accommodate them: pauses lasting a fraction longer, instructions delivered with reduced volume, movements corrected less often but with greater consequence when they were.
These were not men being tested in real time.
They were men already understood by the system.
Ahead, a group was engaged in paired work under supervision — not chaotic, not improvised, but refined down to repeatable exchanges of force and restraint. Each action followed a visible logic: approach, contact, adjustment, reset. Nothing wasted. Nothing left unresolved.
Varvara slowed slightly. Not out of hesitation. Out of concentration.
There was something different here — not louder, not more dramatic, but more exact. The kind of precision that implied experience rather than instruction.
