One Message Changed Everything

Story

It was a normal Monday morning. Emma woke up at 7 a.m. and checked her phone. She always did that before she got out of bed. There were a few messages from her friends, but nothing important.

She got up, had breakfast, and got ready for school. While she was brushing her hair, her phone buzzed again. She looked at the screen and saw a new message from an unknown number.

«Hi. Is this Emma?»

Emma felt a little confused. She didn’t know the number.

«Yes, this is Emma. Who is this?» she wrote.

She put her phone in her bag and went to school.

At school, everything was the same. Her first class was English. Then she had math. She talked to her best friend Lily during the break.

«Did anything interesting happen this morning?» Lily asked.

«Not really,» Emma said. «Just a strange message from an unknown number.»

«What did it say?» Lily asked.

«Just „Hi. Is this Emma?“ I answered, but I don’t know who it is,» Emma replied.

«That’s weird,» Lily said. «You should be careful.»

Emma nodded.

After school, Emma walked home. When she opened the door, she checked her phone again. There was a new message.

«It’s Alex. We met last summer at the camp.»

Emma stopped and smiled. She remembered Alex. They spent a lot of time together at the summer camp. They talked every day and played games. But after the camp, they didn’t stay in touch.

«Alex? Really?» she wrote.

«Yes! I found your number in my old notebook,» he replied.

Emma felt excited.

«How are you?» she wrote.

«I’m good! I moved to your city last week,» Alex answered.

«Really? That’s amazing!» she wrote.

«Can we meet?» he asked.

Emma thought for a moment. She felt a little nervous, but also happy.

«Yes, we can meet. Maybe tomorrow after school?» she wrote.

«Perfect,» Alex replied.

The next day, Emma met Alex in the park. They talked for a long time. Emma felt happy. One message changed everything.

Story

It was Friday evening. Max was sitting on his bed and looking at his phone. He felt tired after a long school day. He wanted to relax and watch videos.

Max didn’t want to open it.

«Not again,» he thought.

Last week, there was a problem in the group. Some students argued about a group project. People wrote many messages, and it became stressful.

Max opened another app, but he couldn’t stop thinking about the message.

«What if it is important?» he thought.

After a few minutes, he finally opened the chat.

There were many new messages.

«Why didn’t you finish your part?» one student wrote.

«I did my part!» another replied.

«This project is a mess,» someone said.

Max felt nervous. He didn’t like conflict.

Then he saw his name.

«Max, can you send your part again?» Anna wrote.

Max took a deep breath.

«I already sent it yesterday,» he typed.

«Can you send it one more time?» Anna asked.

Max checked his files. He found the document and sent it again.

«Here it is,» he wrote.

«Thank you,» Anna replied.

After that, the chat became quieter.

Max felt better.

Later, his friend Leo texted him.

«Hey, are you okay?» Leo asked.

«Yeah,» Max replied. «I just don’t like group chats like that.»

«I understand,» Leo said. «But you did the right thing.»

Max smiled.

He was still a little tired, but now he felt calm.

Sometimes, opening a chat is not easy. But it can solve a problem.

Story

It was Saturday morning. Nina woke up and reached for her phone. She wanted to check her messages, but then she stopped.

She remembered a video about a «digital detox.» People said it was good to spend a day without a phone.

«Maybe I can try,» Nina said to herself.

She turned off her phone and put it in a drawer.

At first, it felt strange. Nina didn’t know what to do. She walked around her room and looked out of the window.

Then she went to the kitchen.

«Good morning,» her mom said. «You are up early today.»

«Good morning,» Nina replied. «I turned off my phone for the day.»

Her mom smiled. «That’s a good idea.»

Nina had breakfast with her family. They talked and laughed. Usually, Nina checked her phone during breakfast, but today she didn’t.

After breakfast, Nina decided to go outside. The weather was nice. She walked to the park.

She saw children playing and people walking their dogs. Nina sat on a bench and watched them.

A girl sat next to her.

«Hi,» the girl said. «Is this seat free?»

«Yes, of course,» Nina answered.

They started to talk. The girl’s name was Kate. She lived nearby.

«I come here every weekend,» Kate said.

«Me too,» Nina said, and smiled. «Well… not always.»

They laughed.

They talked about school, hobbies, and their favorite music.

After some time, Kate said, «Do you want to walk around the park?»

«Sure,» Nina said.

They walked and talked for a long time. Nina felt happy and relaxed.

In the afternoon, Nina went home. She helped her mom cook dinner.

«You are very helpful today,» her mom said.

«I have more time,» Nina replied.

In the evening, Nina sat on her bed and looked at the drawer.

«My phone is there,» she thought. «But I don’t need it right now.»

She felt calm.

That day was different. Nina didn’t check messages, didn’t watch videos, and didn’t use social media.

But she talked to people, walked outside, and made a new friend.

Before going to bed, Nina said, «I think I should do this again.»

Leo felt better.
