1. Lazy Larry and Smarty Sammy Go to the Funfair

There is a boy. His name is Lazy Larry. Larry lives in a small town with his mother and little brother. Their town is very nice. The people in the town are kind and nice, too.

Everybody in the town likes Larry’s brother Smarty Sammy. Sammy is a smart boy. He can read, write and count very well! But Larry is a very lazy boy! He can’t read, write or count.

One day the boys go to the funfair. On the fun fair everybody can get yummy apples. An old man with a big trolley full of red, yellow and green apples gives them out to the children who can say the number on a piece of paper from his bag.

The boys like apples very much. They want to get some.

Smarty Sammy goes first. He comes up to the old man and picks out a piece of paper from his bag. He looks at the paper.

“What’s the number?” – asks the old man.

“It’s number six.” – answers Smarty Sammy.

“That’s the right answer! Now you can take six apples from the trolley.” – says the old man. Smarty Sammy comes up to the trolley and counts six apples: “One, two, three, four, five, six.”

Now it’s Lazy Larry’s turn. Larry comes up to the old man and picks out a piece of paper from his bag. He looks at the paper.

“What’s the number?” – asks the old man.

“I don’t know the numbers and I can’t count”. – answers Lazy Larry.

“You can’t have my apples then”. – says the old man.

Lazy Larry goes back to his brother. He is very sad.

Sammy looks at his brother and says: “You can have my three apples. I want to share them with you. Now you have three apples. Look! One, two, three and I have three apples: one, two, three. Three and three is six. Let’s count together!” – says Smarty Sammy. “One, two, three, four, five, six.” – count the boys.

“I can count to six now! It’s so much fun!” – cries out Lazy Larry.
