Once upon a time, in a dense forest, there lived a poor hedgehog named Yezha. She always dreamed of finding out what was going on outside her forest home. One day, she plucked up her courage and decided to go to the city.

The first thing she met on her way was a hare. He was fast and cheerful. “Where are you going, Yezha?” the hare asked, wagging his ears. “I’m going to the city to meet new friends!” the hedgehog answered. The hare thought for a moment and said: “Take some carrots with you, you’ll need them!” The hedgehog thanked the hare and continued on her way.

A little later, the hedgehog came across a squirrel who was collecting nuts. “Hello, Yezha! Where are you going in such a hurry?” the squirrel asked, winking cheerfully. “I’m going to the city!” the hedgehog answered. The squirrel, smiling, said: “Don’t forget to take some nuts for the road!” The hedgehog obeyed and put some nuts in her backpack.
