KNITTING PATTERN OF THE BABY ROMPER (0—3 MONTHS)



MATERIALS:

– short circular needles 4 mm (US 6);

– double-pointed needles (2 pieces) 4 mm (US 6);

– markers;

– tape measure;

– tapestry needle

– buttons.


YARN:

100—120 m (110—130 yds) in 50 g (1,75 oz) for wool yarn



Yarn examples: Alize Lanagold Classic, Alize Superlana Midi


GAUGE: 17 stitches х 24 rows = 10x10 cm (4x4») in stockinette stitch on 5 mm (US 8) needles after blocking.

KNITTING PROCESS

THE FRONT OF THE ROMPER

Cast on 31 stitches.

Rows 1, 3: sl, P1, (K1, P1) – repeat 14 times, P1

Rows 2, 4: sl, (K1, P1) – repeat 15 times

Abbreviations for knitting straps:

Sl – slip the first stich;

– knit stitch;

– purl stitch

In 5 row lets make buttonholes for buttons.

Row 5: sl, P1, K1, YO, K2tog, (P1, K1) – repeat 11 times, YO, K2tog, P2

Row 6: sl, (K1, P1) – repeat 15 times

Rows 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19: sl, P1, (K1, P1) – repeat 2 times, (K3, P1) – repeat 5 times, (K1, P1) – repeat 2 times, P1

Rows 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20: sl, (K1, P1) – repeat 2 times, K1, (P3, K1) – repeat 5 times, P1, (K1, P1) – repeat 2 times



KNITTING STRAPS

Take double-pointed needles 4 mm (US 6).

Cast on 7 stitches.

Row 1: sl, P1, (K1, P1) – repeat 2 times, P1

Row 2: sl, (K1, P1) – repeat 3 times

Then repeat rows 1 and 2 17 times (all 36 rows)

Cut the yarn.

The second strap is knitted in the same way as the first strap. Don’t cut the yarn!



Then begin to knit the back of the romper.

Row 1: sl, P1, (K1, P1) – repeat 2 times, P1, cast on 17 stitches, (K1, P1) – repeat 3 times, P1

All 31 stitches in circular needles.



Rows 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22: sl, (K1, P1) – repeat 15 times

Row 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21: sl, P1, (K1, P1) – repeat 14 times, P1



Then we will knit in the round. Place Marker – Beginning of Round.

Round 1: sl, P1, (K1, P1) – repeat 14 times, K1,

cast on the 9 stitches, (K1, P1) – repeat 3 times, (K3, P1) – repeat 5 times, (K1, P1) – repeat 2 times, K1, cast on the 9 stitches

All 80 stitches in circular needles.

Join knitting in the round.

Knit 8 rounds:

Rounds 2—8: (K1, P1) – repeat 23 times, (K3, P1) – repeat 5 times, (K1, P1) – repeat 7 times, (80 stitches)




Next, we will knit the main part of the romper in the round for knitting 1Х3 ribbing (1 purl stitch – 3 knit stitches) – 40 rounds.

Rounds 1—40: K1, P1, (K3, P1) – repeat 19 times, K2 (80 stitches)

Then you need to place the markers: 15 stitches – orange marker – 1 stitch – green marker – 39 stitches – red marker – 1 stitch – blue marker – 24 stitches




Then knit 16 stitches to green marker follow main pattern – K1, P1, (K3, P1) – repeat 3 times, K2.

Then transfer to the contrast yarn 53 stitches (39 stitches of the left leg +14 stitches of the gusset between the legs (7 sts of the front gusset and the 7 sts of the back gusset)) and knit the right leg on the five double pointed needles 4 mm on pattern in the round. There are 39 stitches for the right leg.

In 23 round begin to knit the ribbing – one knit stitch – one purl stitch (K1,P1).

Knit the ribbing 14 rounds. Then bind off 40 stitches of the leg. The right leg is ready.



Similary knit the left leg.

Transfer 7 sts of the front gusset and the 7 sts of the back gusset to waste yarn. Then transfer stitches of the left leg from waste yarn to the needle and knit the left leg on the five double pointed needles 4 mm (US 6) on pattern in the round. There are 39 stitches in the left leg.

Round 1: K1, P1, (K3, P1) – repeat 9 times, K1, pick up 1 stitch (40 stitches)



Rounds 2 – 22: K1, P1, (K3, P1) – repeat 9 times, K2 (40 stitches)

In 23 round begin to knit the ribbing – one knit stitch – one purl stitch (K1,P1).

Knit the ribbing 14 rounds. Then bind off 40 stitches of the leg. The left leg is ready.



Transfer live stitches of the gusset from waste yarns to the needles.



With the help of the wool needle seam the stitches together using the Kitchener stitch.

Need to wash romper and dry. Sew 2 buttons. The romper is ready.

Then begin knit the sleeves. Start knitting with the left sleeve. Knit in the round on five double pointed needles 4 mm. Return stitches from the waste yarn to the needle.
