‘You could always nestle in front of me on my horse,’ Daniel suggested.

‘Tomorrow I want to ride.’

Daniel saw she was deadly serious and tried to quash the sickness he felt at seeing Amelia mount a horse. The last time he’d seen her ride she’d ended up being thrown and he’d thought he had lost her.

‘Amelia,’ Daniel said in what he hoped was a conciliatory tone, ‘maybe that’s not the best idea.’

She stiffened and he reached out and took her hand.

‘I’ve ridden since I was six years old,’ she mumbled. ‘Just because you saw me the one time I fell off...’

He raised his eyebrows. Amelia was a good horsewoman, but she was also one of the clumsiest people he knew. He didn’t believe she’d only ever fallen from a horse once.

‘Well, the one time I fell badly,’ she corrected.

‘Maybe I can be convinced,’ Daniel said. ‘I am a reasonable man after all.’

Amelia’s face lit up. ‘What would convince you?’

‘A kiss.’

He saw her hesitate and for a second he wondered if she would refuse. She was well within her rights to toss him out of her room and scream for her aunt. Of course the sensible girl didn’t. She wanted it as much as he did.

Daniel waited for her to come to him. All their previous kisses he had initiated, but this time he wanted to feel her hands on his jaw, see her lips parting as she swayed in closer to him.

Slowly Amelia moved closer so their bodies were pressed together. She raised a hand to his cheek and traced the angle of his jaw, then she looked into his eyes before she closed the gap between them. Her kiss was feathery light and it sent Daniel almost mad with desire. His lips screamed out for more and every nerve ending was on fire. Amelia brushed her lips against his again before pulling away. The minx was teasing him.

‘We will be late for dinner.’

Daniel glanced at the clock on the wall and growled something under his breath no well-bred lady should ever hear.
